Fatal Sydney West reserve murder death of Leanne Akrap
Leanne Akrap, 47, was found dead in a secluded reserve in Sydney’s west, prompting a police murder investigation.
Her body was discovered Sunday afternoon in Werrington, partially clothed and lying face down among rubbish and clothes, according to authorities.
Within 24 hours of the discovery, 47-year-old Bryan Steven Johnson was arrested at his Hobartville home and charged with Akrap’s murder.
Police say the two were known to each other but were not involved in a domestic relationship. Johnson was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in Penrith Local Court.
The police investigation, conducted under Strike Force Dowerin, established two crime scenes, one at the reserve where Akrap’s body was found and another about half a kilometer away. Detectives have been canvassing nearby homes as part of their ongoing inquiries.
Detective Superintendent Trent King described the location as isolated, with the reserve bordering residential neighborhoods and a sporting field.
A post-mortem examination is underway to provide further details, with a report expected soon for the coroner. The investigation continues as police work to uncover the circumstances surrounding Akrap’s death.
