Mazin Aljawhar dies in fatal Jean car crash

Fatal Jean car crash death of Mazin Aljawhar

Mazin Aljawhar, 48, of Las Vegas, was killed in a crash last Tuesday along Interstate 15 near mile marker 6, just outside Jean, Nevada.

According to the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when a southbound Chevrolet, driven by Eric Halton, veered onto the right shoulder and slammed into a Honda sedan parked off the road. The impact caused the Honda to overturn into the desert, ejecting Aljawhar from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Halton, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was flown to a nearby hospital. Authorities said he appeared impaired and was found to be driving without a valid license, which had been previously revoked due to a DUI. His vehicle was also unregistered, and he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Halton has since been arrested and faces multiple charges, including felony DUI causing death, reckless driving resulting in death, and other violations related to licensing and safety.

Toxicology results from the hospital visit are pending as the investigation continues. This incident marks one of 31 fatal crashes investigated by Region One of the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol so far this year.
