Authorities in Summerville have confirmed the death of 61-year-old Patrick David Hatcher, who was fatally shot by police during a welfare check at a local mobile home park.

The incident occurred Saturday evening at the Summerville Mobile Home Park, where officers from the Summerville Police Department were dispatched around 8 p.m. in response to a call requesting a welfare check.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly heard gunfire coming from one of the homes. During the ensuing encounter, Hatcher was shot by one of the responding officers. According to law enforcement, he was injured in the exchange and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene at 9:18 p.m., as stated by the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.

Deputy Chief Chris Hirsch confirmed that the suspect had engaged with officers prior to the shooting. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.
