Fatal Wise County car crash death of Sofia Christensen
Two teenagers lost their lives early Monday morning in a crash involving a pickup truck and a freightliner in Wise County, Texas.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred around 6:44 a.m. on U.S. Highway 380 at the intersection of County Road 4011 near Decatur. A 1994 Ford F150, driven by 16-year-old Sofia Christensen, reportedly pulled into the path of a 2005 Freightliner that was hauling a trailer.
The Freightliner struck the Ford as it crossed the highway, causing the larger vehicle to jackknife and roll over before stopping in the center median. The Ford veered off the road and came to a rest on the south shoulder.
Sofia Christensen was transported to a hospital in Denton where she was pronounced dead. Thirteen-year-old Nolan Christensen, who was riding in the front passenger seat, died at the scene.
Twelve-year-old Ella Christensen, a rear passenger in the Ford, was taken to a hospital in Fort Worth. Her condition had not been confirmed by Monday evening.
The Freightliner’s driver, 33-year-old Jose Feliz Rodriguez, sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
