Fatal Monterey County boat crash death of Trenten Paul Black

Trenten Paul Black, 26, of Aptos, lost his life following a violent incident that began with a boat collision and escalated into a physical altercation on Wednesday morning at Moss Landing Harbor in Monterey County.

 

At approximately 9 a.m., the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, along with California State Parks officers, responded to reports of a boating accident at the harbor. According to officials, after the initial crash, one of the boaters reportedly climbed onto the other vessel, leading to a physical confrontation between the two men.

 

Authorities said that during the altercation, one of the individuals fell into the water while the other allegedly continued to strike him with a stick. Witnesses informed deputies that one person was later seen leaving the water and departing with his boat. That individual was subsequently detained for questioning.

 

The other person involved in the fight did not resurface, according to witness accounts provided to deputies at the scene. A search effort was launched with assistance from a dive team and the US Coast Guard. Using SONAR equipment, responders located what was believed to be a body in the water.

 

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that the deceased was Trenten Paul Black.
