Fatal North Laredo road rage death of William Jefferson Johns

A violent road rage encounter in North Laredo has resulted in the death of William Jefferson Johns, 43, who succumbed to his injuries on June 14, 2025, in a San Antonio hospital.

The incident began on June 5 when Johns was reportedly followed to a residence in the 400 block of St. Thomas Drive after an altercation on the road. Once he got out of his vehicle, the suspect, identified as 66-year-old Jose David Valenzuela, allegedly hit him with a blue Chrysler van, according to police.

Johns suffered critical, life-threatening injuries and was transported by air to San Antonio Military Medical Center. Despite intensive medical care, he died nine days later.

Valenzuela was arrested on June 6 and charged with aggravated assault using a deadly weapon that caused brain trauma or paralysis. He was released from custody the same day, as indicated by Webb County Jail records.

Authorities expect more charges to be brought against Valenzuela following the victim’s death. The Webb County District Attorney’s Office is currently awaiting the final autopsy results from the Bexar County Medical Examiner before proceeding with a grand jury indictment.

Laredo police have labeled this case as the sixth homicide in the city so far this year. The LPD Crash Team continues to lead the investigation.
