Fatal Hemet motorcycle crash death of Christopher Shick
Christopher Shick, a 33-year-old man originally from New Bethlehem and most recently living in Hemet, California, was killed late Saturday night when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck in Hemet.
The collision occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. as Shick was traveling south on Yale Street on his Kawasaki Vulcan 1500. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford F-150 pickup heading north on Yale Street made a left turn onto Acacia Avenue, cutting into Shick’s path.
CHP Officer Jonathan Torres stated that Shick had no opportunity to swerve or stop before hitting the passenger side of the turning truck. The force of the impact threw Shick from his motorcycle onto the roadway.
Emergency units, including personnel from the California Highway Patrol, Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, and area fire departments, arrived within 15 minutes of the crash. Shick was declared deceased at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
Authorities reported that the pickup truck driver remained at the scene, called 911 immediately, and cooperated with officers. The driver was unharmed and has not been arrested. The investigation into the incident is still active.
Reports from Action Eye News indicated that Shick had been commuting home from work in Beaumont when the accident happened. His wife, alerted by the sound of sirens, rushed to the crash site after learning what had occurred.
Shick was a former United States Marine who had served for four years. He is survived by his wife, two young daughters aged 10 and 11, and a 16-year-old stepson he had raised since childhood.
On Monday, the Riverside County Coroner formally confirmed Shick’s identity and ruled that he died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The intersection where the accident happened remained closed for about two hours while officials investigated.
