Fatal Butler County car crash death of Eliot “Britton” Eichbauer
Eliot “Britton” Eichbauer, a 46-year-old teacher from Wichita, his 19-year-old son Arlo, and his 16-year-old nephew Silas Eichbauer were killed in a deadly collision in Butler County involving a suspected drunk driver.
The crash occurred Wednesday night on Highway 400 between Leon and Beaumont. Authorities say a Chevrolet pickup truck heading east was seen swerving before it collided head-on with a westbound Toyota Tacoma, which carried the Eichbauer family members. All three occupants of the Tacoma were pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the Chevrolet truck sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported for emergency care. Investigators believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident, though the case remains under active investigation.
Eliot Eichbauer was a social studies teacher at Curtis Middle School, while Silas attended North High School. Arlo Eichbauer had recently turned 19. The tragedy has deeply impacted the local school community, where Britton Eichbauer was remembered for his passion and dedication to his students.
Former student Lacey Trimmell recalled him as a teacher who inspired his students beyond academics. She described the loss as painful and unnecessary, especially given the ages of the young victims.
Trimmell shared that Mr. Eichbauer always strove to connect with his students as individuals, not just as pupils. She emphasized his unmatched enthusiasm for teaching and care for others.
The Eichbauer family has set up a GoFundMe page to support funeral expenses. The campaign mentions that Britton Eichbauer leaves behind two more children, and Silas was the second oldest among eight siblings.
Plans are underway to hold a joint funeral for the three victims, allowing the community to gather in remembrance, support, and mourning.
