Fatal Belmont car crash death of Herbert James Wilson

Herbert James Wilson, a Charlotte resident, lost his life in a deadly rollover collision that occurred on the evening of June 17 in Belmont, North Carolina.

 

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Wilkinson Boulevard and Browntown Road, where Wilson was driving a Ford Explorer westbound. According to initial findings from the Belmont Police Department, a woman driving out of the Napa Auto Parts parking lot attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of U.S. 74 and collided with Wilson’s vehicle.

 

The force of the crash caused Wilson’s SUV to overturn. Emergency responders found him pinned inside the wreckage and unresponsive. Despite efforts to save him, Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Following the accident, Wilkinson Boulevard was closed for several hours as authorities investigated and rerouted traffic through East Catawba Street.

 

Police reported that the driver who struck Wilson remained at the crash site and is cooperating with investigators. It is not yet known whether she will face any legal charges.
