Fatal Newton County crash death of Josette Blasdel

A tragic accident claimed the life of 41-year-old Josette Blasdel of Leesville in a crash on Highway 63 in Newton County late Monday afternoon.

The deadly incident occurred just before 4 p.m., a few miles east of Burkeville, when the 18-wheeler Blasdel was driving lost control. According to authorities, the truck was headed east when it overturned, veered off the road, and slammed into a large pine tree.

Blasdel was thrown from the cab during the crash. Her body was discovered between the truck and its trailer.

Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety stated that a preliminary inquiry found that the crash was caused by a tire blowout.

Blasdel, a mother of four, was accompanied by a passenger in the vehicle who fortunately escaped without injury.
