Mequez Bernard Geer, 34, of Anderson, South Carolina, was found dead late Tuesday night after authorities responded to a burning vehicle in Spartanburg.

Emergency personnel from the Spartanburg Police Department and the Spartanburg Fire Department arrived at the intersection of Woodburn Road and Pinecrest Road at approximately 11:55 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle on fire.

Upon arrival, officials located a vehicle engulfed in flames several feet off the roadway. Once the fire was brought under control, a body was discovered near the burned-out vehicle.

On Wednesday, the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office confirmed the deceased as Mequez Bernard Geer and announced that the circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated as suspicious.
