Richard Bennett, a 59-year-old resident of Gurnee, was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking along Washington Street in Gurnee on Monday night.

The Lake County coroner’s office confirmed that Bennett died as a result of blunt force injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Washington Street and Route 21.

Police reported that Bennett had been walking eastbound on Washington Street when a vehicle traveling in the same direction hit him. He was discovered unresponsive in the eastbound lanes and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver involved in the crash stayed at the location and has been cooperating with the authorities as the investigation proceeds.

No charges have been filed at this time, and officials have not released any further details regarding the cause of the incident.
