Fatal Ferguson stabbing death of Robert E. Lewis

A man is being held on a $1 million bond after allegedly stabbing Robert E. Lewis to death with a machete in Ferguson, Missouri, last week.

According to law enforcement, Bryan Keith Washington attacked Lewis outside Elite Liquor at 9797 W. Florissant Avenue following a heated exchange on Thursday. Surveillance video captured Lewis walking toward Washington, who then drew a machete from his pants. As Lewis began backing away, Washington swung at him.

Although Lewis managed to avoid the initial blow and collapsed to the ground, he was fatally stabbed in the heart as he tried to escape. Washington fled the area after the attack.

Emergency responders transported Lewis to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Washington has since been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is currently in custody at the St. Louis County Jail located in Clayton.

Several support services are available for those affected by violent crimes in the St. Louis area. The Crime Victim Center offers both direct assistance and advocacy to promote systemic change. Programs like Life Outside of Violence and the Neighborhood Healing Network provide support and guidance for individuals recovering from trauma. Additionally, the Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) helps gunshot victims heal both physically and emotionally after being discharged from the hospital.
