Victor Bautista dies in fatal Bronx shooting

Fatal Bronx shooting death of Victor Bautista

A deadly shooting early Tuesday morning in the Bronx has left 38-year-old Victor Bautista dead, prompting a police search for the gunman responsible.

The incident occurred shortly after 7:45 a.m. near the intersection of Trinity Avenue and East 149th Street. Bautista was reportedly shot in the chest outside a local deli and later died at the hospital from his injuries.

Authorities believe the shooting may have stemmed from a personal dispute.

Marisol Rivera, a representative of the anti-violence group Save Our Streets, described Bautista as a caring man who was deeply loved by his community. She added that he was a father, uncle, and brother, and emphasized that arguments should never escalate to violence.

As investigators combed the scene for evidence, including towing a blue BMW possibly linked to the case, nearby residents recalled hearing two gunshots.

Gatsamani Peralta, who lives nearby, said she initially mistook the sounds for fireworks and expressed fear about how close the shooting occurred to her home.

Police say the shooter fled the scene wearing a green construction vest and was last seen heading toward East 149th Street.

The investigation remains ongoing as loved ones mourn the loss of a man described as energetic, compassionate, and deeply missed.
