According to police reports, officers were acting on intelligence that led them to approach a vehicle in which Evanson and others were present. As police identified themselves, Evanson allegedly opened fire, prompting officers to return fire.

 

The exchange of gunfire left one officer injured and Evanson with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene by a responding medical professional.

 

The incident took place at approximately 9:00 p.m. during what authorities described as an ongoing police operation that escalated when officers were fired upon by unidentified individuals.

 

The wounded officer was taken to a hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and he remains in stable condition, according to the official statement.
