Fatal Monroe County shooting death of Faith Renee Hamilton
Two teenagers, both 16 years old and students at Airport Community Schools, were found dead with gunshot wounds along Heiss Road in Raisinville Township, Monroe County, late Tuesday morning.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Faith Renee Hamilton was the victim in what investigators believe to be a planned murder-suicide. The suspect has been identified as her boyfriend, Landon Bryan Lafond, also 16.
Police received the initial report just before 10 a.m. after Hamilton’s uncle contacted dispatchers. Deputies responding to the scene found both teenagers deceased near Lafond’s vehicle.
Authorities say writings discovered inside the vehicle strongly suggest that Lafond intended to take both his life and Hamilton’s. The sheriff’s department is waiting on the coroner’s report to officially confirm the cause of death.
Although the case has not yet been officially ruled a homicide, Sheriff Troy Goodnough said early evidence supports that Hamilton was the victim.
In response to the tragedy, Airport Community Schools issued a statement mourning the loss and offered condolences to the affected families. Although school is currently on summer break, grief counseling services will be available at the high school media center on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
