A quiet dawn in East St. Louis turned tragic when gunfire erupted outside 900 O’Fallon Street a little after 3:20 a.m. Sunday.
Responding officers discovered a sedan holding four teenagers, three of whom had been hit by bullets.
Sixteen-year-old Octavius Harris could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds and are reported in stable condition.
Detectives say the teens had just left a nearby party when two armed individuals targeted their vehicle.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide unit is tracking leads but has yet to name any suspects.
Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as the community grieves the loss of a young life.
