Fatal Pontiac shooting death of Thomas Jerrell Washington
A 26-year-old Auburn Hills man, Thomas Jerrell Washington, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Pontiac, leading to the arrest of a suspect already on probation.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Auburn and Russell on June 13. Witnesses reported shots being fired from a moving vehicle before it sped away. Washington was struck in the wrist and back and was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators quickly identified Tremaine Jevon Love, 32, as the suspected shooter. He was taken into custody within hours during a traffic stop in West Bloomfield.
Love has since been arraigned on several charges including first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and two counts related to felony firearm offenses.
State correctional records show that Love is currently on probation for fraud and marijuana possession. His criminal history includes previous convictions for weapons violations and narcotics possession.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard commended the rapid investigative work that led to Love’s capture. He stated that individuals with repeated violent offenses, like Love, should face lengthy prison terms to prevent further harm.
