16-year old teen from Utah charged in the fatal shootings of Fnu Reena and Hassan Lugundi

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH — A 16-year-old boy from West Valley City was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting which left Fnu Reena and Hassan Lugundi dead.

at the WestFest carnival that resulted in four fatalities, including an infant and a pregnant woman.

According to the West Valley City Police Department, the teenager, whose name was not released due to his age, was taken into custody on Sunday night during the event at the carnival grounds. Authorities say the incident involved a gang confrontation that occurred during the festival, which drew thousands of attendees.

The shooting claimed the lives of Hassan Lugundi, 18, of West Valley City — the apparent intended target — as well as 41-year-old Fnu Reen of West Jordan and her 8-month-old son, who were bystanders. Police later confirmed that Reena was eight weeks pregnant, resulting in a fourth murder charge under Utah law.

The teen was transported to a juvenile detention facility and is currently facing four counts of murder, along with nine felony counts of discharging a firearm resulting in serious injury. Court documents indicate prosecutors have requested that the suspect remain in custody without bond.
