Fatal Garner car crash death of Patrick Trevathan

Patrick Trevathan, a 38-year-old man, died Thursday morning after a three-vehicle crash caused by a speeding driver in Garner, North Carolina.

The incident occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of White Oak Road and Timber Drive. Police say 41-year-old Michael Roberts was driving a Dodge Viper at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle.

Roberts’ car crossed over the median and collided with two vehicles, including a Mitsubishi sedan driven by Trevathan. Trevathan suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another car involved, a Toyota SUV, was struck during the crash, but the female driver was not hurt.

Roberts was taken to WakeMed Raleigh for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said he cooperated with the investigation, and no signs of impairment were observed.

Roberts has been cited for multiple offenses, including misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless and careless driving, failure to maintain lane control, speeding, and failure to reduce speed.

The Garner Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
