Rasheed Mills, a 16-year-old teen known and admired in his community, tragically lost his life in a shooting that occurred in the Over-the-Rhine (OTR) area.

The incident happened inside an apartment building close to a bustling area filled with shops and restaurants. Gunfire broke out around 9:30 p.m., striking Rasheed in the chest and ending his life instantly.

Friends, neighbors, and loved ones gathered at the scene, overcome with grief and searching for answers. Among them was Roanna Lawson, who couldn’t hold back tears as she mourned alongside others on Vine Street, where sorrow now lingers in the air.

Rasheed had just celebrated his 16th birthday and had been working two summer jobs—one with 3CDC and another as a camp counselor for children living with diabetes. He was described as kind, hardworking, and deeply respected by those who knew him.

Despite the shooting happening south of Liberty Street—a part of OTR that typically sees less violence—this incident has shaken residents and visitors alike. One witness initially mistook the gunshot for fireworks and fled the area in fear.
