Fatal Southbury tractor-trailer crash death of Brian Lloyd

Connecticut State Police have identified the man killed in a crash on Interstate 84 in Southbury as 60-year-old Brian Lloyd of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The fatal incident occurred early Wednesday morning, June 18, in the eastbound lanes of I-84, just past Exit 15. Authorities say the crash was reported around 4:50 a.m.

Lloyd was operating a Volvo VNL tractor-trailer in the left lane when the vehicle unexpectedly crossed into the median, then veered across both eastbound lanes. The truck collided with an overhead light pole and broke through a guardrail before plunging down an embankment into a wooded area.

According to police, Lloyd was thrown from the vehicle during the crash and suffered fatal injuries. He was later transported to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The state police crash reconstruction unit responded to investigate the scene, and the inquiry into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.
