Fatal Manchester Route 539 crash death of Danny R. Coleman

Danny R. Coleman, 77, from Whiting, died Thursday after a head-on collision on Route 539, according to Manchester Police.

Officials believe Coleman suffered a medical emergency while driving his 2024 Ford Maverick, which led to the crash, said Police Captain Albert Vega.

The other vehicle involved was a 2016 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 55-year-old Jose Rodriguez-Morales, with passenger 39-year-old Jesus Torres, both from Levittown, Pennsylvania. Rodriguez-Morales sustained minor injuries, and Torres was unharmed.

Police responded near mile marker 26.5 and found the Tacoma facing south on the northbound dirt shoulder, heavily damaged, while the Maverick was off the road in the woods with severe front driver-side damage.

Investigation revealed the Tacoma was heading north and the Maverick south when Coleman’s vehicle crossed the centerline, striking the Tacoma on its rear driver’s side. The Maverick then veered off the road, collided with a tree, and stopped in the woods. The Tacoma overturned after the impact.

Emergency crews from Manchester and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital attended the scene. The highway was closed for hours during the investigation led by Patrolman Conner Yatauro.
