Fatal Monroe County shooting death of Faith Hamilton and Landon Lafond
Two 16-year-old teenagers, Faith Hamilton and Landon Lafond, were found shot to death outside a vehicle on Tuesday in Raisinville Township, Michigan, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Troy Goodnough confirmed the identities of the deceased teens on Wednesday, though the exact cause of death has not yet been released pending the coroner’s report.
Hamilton’s uncle discovered the bodies after using a phone-tracking app to locate her. The two teens, who appeared to be in a romantic relationship, had been communicating on Tuesday morning before ending up near Heiss Road and Steffas Road, where they were later found.
Inside Lafond’s vehicle, investigators uncovered writings suggesting he may have planned to end both his and Hamilton’s lives. However, authorities have not formally classified the case as a murder-suicide.
The sheriff emphasized that the tragedy is unrelated to a separate suspected murder-suicide that occurred days earlier in Bedford Township, where 17-year-old Gwendolyn Smith was fatally shot by 33-year-old Ryne Leist, who then took his own life.
Sheriff Goodnough described the recent events as deeply tragic and acknowledged the significant emotional toll on the local community.
The investigation into the deaths of Hamilton and Lafond is still ongoing.
