Fatal Wright crash deaths of Ricky Lynch and Steve Layman

Two Gillette men, Ricky Lynch, 74, and Steve Layman, 68, lost their lives in a deadly head-on collision that occurred Wednesday morning on Highway 450 between Wright and Newcastle, Wyoming.

According to Sgt. Jason Roascio of the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the crash took place around 8 a.m. as the two motorcyclists were heading eastbound near mile marker 5332. At the same time, a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 work truck was traveling westbound on the same highway.

Authorities say the truck veered into the eastbound lane, striking both motorcycles head-on. The impact was fatal, and both Lynch and Layman were pronounced dead at the scene.

Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem confirmed the vehicle involved was a work truck. Sgt. Roascio stated that fatigue on the part of the truck driver is suspected to be the primary cause of the crash.

Crash reconstruction specialists are continuing to investigate the scene. The motorcycles involved were identified as a 2007 Honda Goldwing and a 2009 BMW. Conditions at the time of the crash were reported as clear with dry roads.
