Fatal Jackson, Mississippi shooting death of Lajarvis Ruffin

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The Jackson Police Department is currently investigating a homicide incident that occurred at one of the city’s apartment complexes. The tragic event took place at midnight on Thursday at the Park Springs Apartments located on Shaw Road.

According to information provided by the Jackson Police, the victim was engaged in changing the locks on his child’s mother’s door. The JPD reported that the reason for this action stemmed from issues the victim was experiencing with the father of his other child’s partner.

Hinds County Interim Coroner Jeramiah Howard has officially identified the deceased individual as Lajarvis Ruffin, who was 30 years old at the time of his death. The police stated that the victim’s cousin was the first to discover the scene of violence after hearing gunshots. Upon investigation, it was found that Ruffin had been shot and killed outside the apartment door.

The fatal shooting resulted in multiple gunshot wounds, and unfortunately, the victim did not survive the injuries sustained at the scene. His body was found on the premises at building 17 of the Park Springs Apartments complex.

Coroner Howard has indicated that Ruffin’s remains will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office for a thorough autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. At the moment, the Jackson Police Department has not made any arrests and is actively seeking information to identify those responsible for this heinous act.
