Fatal Tarrant County dog attack death of Ronald Anderson

Tarrant County authorities are in shock following the death of their elderly neighbor, Ronald Anderson, whose fatal injuries were sustained in a dog attack earlier this week. The incident has left the community grappling with grief and concern.

Deputies confirmed that Anderson’s son and a neighbor discovered his body within the confines of his residence. The heartbreaking discovery came after he had been the victim of a savage attack by three dogs, which reportedly broke through a section of the fence separating his backyard from a neighboring property while he was engaged in yardwork.

Cinda Sackett, Ronald Anderson’s daughter, expressed deep sorrow, noting that her 82-year-old father took immense pride in maintaining his yard. “He took a lot of pride in his yard,” Sackett shared, adding that her brother witnessed the horrific event unfold on Monday. “My brother is deaf, and we had to FaceTime; the look on his face confirmed something truly awful had occurred.”

Investigators detailed that the scene was gruesome, with Anderson found lifeless in his living room, a significant pool of blood originating from his left leg. Evidence gathered included a pair of bloodied tennis shoes and puncture wounds, alongside a torn work glove and a hat, all showing signs of struggle. A blood trail was reportedly visible, leading from the discovered items and the yard directly into the home.

The emotional toll on Anderson’s family is profound. Sackett believes her father fought desperately against his attackers during his attempt to flee the menacing animals. She also mentioned that the dogs had previously instilled fear throughout the neighborhood on Slay Drive, with the next-door neighbor admitting they had attacked her multiple times before, prompting the installation of a 12-foot fence. However, even this measure was not enough, as the animals reportedly targeted the workers erecting the barrier.

Sackett issued a strong statement regarding the dogs’ owner, suggesting that awareness of the animals’ vicious nature should have prompted immediate containment. “I definitely think that if he knew his dogs were that vicious and causing problems, then he should’ve done something to contain his animals,” she asserted, emphasizing that the death was entirely preventable.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the three dogs—a pit bull mix and two shepherd mixes—have been secured. Sackett and her family have since dedicated their efforts to repairing the damaged section of the fence, hoping to prevent a similar tragedy for her brother, who resides in the same home. “It wasn’t a necessary death, and it definitely could have been prevented,” Sackett lamented.

At this time, it remains unclear whether the dogs’ owner faces criminal charges. Neighbors have indicated they are cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the dangerous dogs, which continues to weigh heavily on the community.
