Fatal Brazoria County, Rosharon, Texas officer-involved shooting death of Daniel Areh
Brazoria County authorities report a man wanted for assault is deceased following a high-speed pursuit and law enforcement action in the Rosharon vicinity near Highway 288 on Wednesday morning. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Daniel Areh from Houston.
Initial reports detail deputies responding to a disturbance call from a woman who feared the suspect might be approaching her home. Officials confirmed Areh held outstanding warrants for assault charges.
Though the suspect was not apprehended at the residence, deputies initiated a search operation upon spotting a gray vehicle matching the description of Areh’s car committing a traffic infraction. After the driver, Areh, entered a residential neighborhood, deputies attempted a traffic stop, prompting a high-speed chase.
According to investigators, Areh drove recklessly, crossing into the opposite lane of travel on a highway before colliding into a ditch and fleeing on foot into a wooded area along Valley Vista Drive, off Highway 288. Deputies established a containment zone and requested K-9 teams, aerial drones, and support from adjacent agencies.
In the wooded area, Areh reportedly displayed a knife when deputies attempted to detain him. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Madison Polston stated, “As deputies moved into the wooded area to take custody, the suspect brandished a knife. That prompted at least two deputies to shoot at the suspect to neutralize the immediate threat.”
Areh was moved to a secure location for emergency medical treatment and airlifted to a nearby Houston hospital. Despite medical intervention, he was later pronounced deceased.
No law enforcement officers suffered serious injuries during the incident. Involved personnel are currently on administrative leave, and external investigations by the Texas Rangers are underway alongside an internal review by the sheriff’s department.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office emphasized, “The safety of our citizens is paramount. We appreciate the trust placed in us to serve the residents of Brazoria County.”
