A suspect is currently being held following a violent incident in Austin that resulted in a death and a serious injury. According to KAAL, the Austin Police Department confirmed that a 16-year-old male from Austin has been arrested in connection with the case. The suspect’s identity remains undisclosed at this moment.

The shooting occurred on Saturday at the 1100 block of 5th Avenue Northwest. Police received a 911 call around 1:36 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. Despite medical intervention, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Another adult male was also harmed in the incident and was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. The Austin Police Department reached out to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for assistance at the crime location.

Officials have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public, although the investigation is still active. The identity of the deceased will be officially confirmed after the preliminary autopsy and proper identification protocols are completed.

Witnesses expressed shock and concern about the safety of their community. Molly Maschka, a local resident, described the event as disheartening. Initially, she thought something minor was occurring, like helping with a stuck vehicle due to unplowed roads. However, she soon realized the severity of the situation, noting emergency responders were performing life-saving measures.

Glenn Brownlow and other residents voiced their dismay, stating that such incidents are becoming too frequent in Austin. They believe stronger actions against gun violence are necessary. Maschka added that the tragedy has altered their perception of Austin’s safety.
