MILLINOCKET, Maine (WABI / Gray News) – Authorities have released further details regarding the vanishing of father and daughter, Tim and Esther Keiderling, who went missing during a hike and were later found dead earlier this month.

The father and daughter pair, Tim Keiderling and Esther Keiderling, went missing near the summit of Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak. They were last seen on June 1st.

According to officials, Tim, aged 58, was located by a Maine Warden Service K9 search team on the Tableland near the summit of Katahdin on June 3rd.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner indicated that Tim’s cause of death is still pending further investigation, as reported by WABI.

Baxter State Park rangers reported that Esther was found dead the day after her father’s body was discovered, in a boulder area between the Cathedral and Saddle Trails off the Tablelands, approximately 1,000 feet from where her father was located.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that Esther, aged 28, died from blunt force injuries.

Park officials stated that it appears Esther continued downhill off-trail and attempted to traverse the boulder area, which was steep and snow-covered, and subsequently slid downhill until she impacted large boulders.

Based on the weather conditions on June 1st, officials noted that the snowfield was likely icy and virtually impassable without proper equipment.

Tim’s son, Timothy Keiderling, issued a statement saying, “On behalf of my mother Annemarie, and our whole family, we are extremely grateful for the professional and immediate response of the search teams and the investigation that followed. Their expertise and their care for my father and Esther were evident both during the search and in their comprehensive review over the last days and also helped give us a degree of closure. We are focused on supporting one another and respectfully request privacy as we navigate this difficult time, and ask that all further media inquiries are directed to Baxter State Park. We appreciate your understanding.”
