Fatal Anderson County shooting death of Laporshia Cobb

Laporshia Cobb, a 35-year-old mother, was killed Saturday night during a violent shooting in Anderson County, South Carolina, that also left nine other people injured.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred around 10 p.m. on Scarborough Road during a large neighborhood gathering in honor of Juneteenth. The situation escalated when a dispute broke out, and multiple shots were fired, resulting in chaos as hundreds of people fled the scene.

Authorities arrested 18-year-old Tiyelle Rakelle Demon Hollings, a student at Westside High School, charging him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Investigators believe Hollings fired into the crowd, striking Cobb in the abdomen and injuring nine other individuals.

Emergency crews, including law enforcement, EMS, fire personnel, and troopers, responded en masse—more than 100 first responders worked to secure the scene and help victims. Cobb was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound, while two of the injured were hospitalized in critical condition. The remaining seven victims were treated for less severe injuries.

Officials emphasized that Cobb and the other victims were not involved in the altercation but were innocent bystanders caught in the gunfire. Witnesses described a chaotic aftermath, with shoes and debris scattered across the street.

Hollings appeared in court Monday evening and was denied bond. During the hearing, Cobb’s grieving family asked that the suspect have no contact with them. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as the case continues.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to report it anonymously via their tip line.
