Fatal Syracuse pool shooting death of Adhon Thomas

Syracuse, NY — A fifteen-year-old youth, identified as Adhon Thomas, has been confirmed deceased following a shooting incident reported near the Upper Onondaga Park Pool located in the Strathmore area.

According to Kieran Coffey, representing Syracuse police, the individual who passed away was Adhon Thomas. Chief Joseph Cecile detailed that Thomas sustained a wound to his abdominal region by another individual situated just outside the pool’s fence line. Emergency services conveyed Thomas to Upstate University Hospital where medical personnel confirmed his death.

The responsible party responsible for the discharge of the firearm has not yet been secured, nor has the weapon itself been located. Neither law enforcement apprehensions nor seizure of the device has been announced by Coffey as of Wednesday.

Initiating the afternoon, around the 14:00 hour, the city utilizes its ShotSpotter technology, which registered gunshots originating from Upper Onondaga Park. Subsequently, a communication directed to the 911 emergency dispatch center reported shots having been fired close to the pool premises and a male individual being struck in the stomach.

Law enforcement units arrived rapidly. By the 15:00 mark, multiple crime investigation vehicles and upwards of six police motor vehicles were present on the site. Standard operating procedures dictated that the Upper Pool facility be cleared and secured with barricade tape as a crime scene. A considerable number of local residents and observers were noted assembled at a structure adjacent to the park.

The operational availability of the Upper Pool facility for public usage was suspended on Wednesday by the designated park authorities.
