New Orleans – The Jefferson Parish Corrections Officer, identified as Ashley Aples, has died following a fatal shooting in the Seabrook neighborhood. He was located in the 5600 block of Morrison Road on Sunday morning, authorities reported.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have yet to determine a specific motive for the incident, which occurred around 2:40 a.m. Aples, a 43-year-old father of three, was employed by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for nearly two years. He worked at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna.

A source close to the family, his mother Valerie Eddington, shared that Ashley was deeply loved, remembered for his dedication to his children, his niece, and his passion for music and community support. Eddington noted his background, mentioning he previously lived in Houston after Hurricane Katrina and tragically lost his daughter Za’rhya to cancer in 2017.

It is confirmed that Aples was off duty at the time of his passing. Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for Saturday, July 5th, at New Orleans Funeral and Cremation Service, with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
