Fatal Florence County dismemberment death of Christie Ward

The Florence County Coroner’s Office officially identified the remains found in a state of dismemberment within containers inside a residence last week. The victim was identified as 50-year-old Christie Ward, originally from Ocean Isle, North Carolina. The official cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma resulting in head injuries.

Investigators initially reported Ward and Charles Antwine Jr. as missing from their home in North Carolina several weeks before the discovery. A significant development occurred when a Florence County law enforcement officer located a submerged automobile’s roof at the Lynches River boat access point. This particular vehicle possessed a South Carolina registration plate linked to Antwine, a resident of Lake City.

Law enforcement proceeded to inspect Antwine’s dwelling despite the lack of response. Upon entering, authorities noted an unusual odor permeating the premises. Following the acquisition of a search warrant, officers found Antwine seated inside the residence. This led to the unearthing of macabre evidence, with human remains distributed across three sealed plastic containers.

Antwine has been formally arrested and charged with desecration of human remains. However, prosecutors indicate additional charges may be forthcoming as the ongoing investigation continues. Antwine’s subsequent court date is currently set for August 19th.
