Fatal Downtown Amarillo, Texas car crash death of Orelvis Perez Rodriguez
The Amarillo Fire Department and Police confirmed the death following a collision reported around 6:42 a.m. on Wednesday morning near Southeast 10th Avenue and South Pierce Street.
Officials state a pickup truck traveling south on Pierce Street was struck by a vehicle heading east on 10th Avenue. According to the incident report, the driver of the eastbound car disregarded a traffic signal at Pierce Street and collided with the rear of the pickup truck.
The driver of the sedan, identified as 54-year-old Orelvis Perez Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Law enforcement has cited reckless driving and speeding by the sedan operator as contributing factors to the collision.
