Fatal Modesto pedestrian crash death of Bailey Bell

Bailey Bell, 23, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run collision early Sunday morning in Modesto.

According to Modesto police, Bell was struck near the intersection of Yosemite Boulevard and Severin Avenue at approximately 1:30 AM on June 22, 2025, while attempting to cross the road . Responders discovered her unresponsive in the street, began CPR on site, and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries .

 

Investigators say the vehicle involved was a westbound Toyota, driven by 27‑year‑old Eloy Sergio Diaz of Modesto, who fled the scene after the impact . Police located and arrested Diaz just before 3:15 AM. He is now facing charges that include felony DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter .

 

The Modesto Police Department continues to gather evidence and is urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward and contact authorities .

 

Drivers are reminded of their legal obligation to exercise caution around pedestrians, remain at the scene of an accident, call emergency services, and cooperate with investigators.
