NEWARK, CA (JUNE 22, 2025) – A fatal collision on eastbound Highway 84 in Newark claimed the life of Davinder Kumar, a 43-year-old man authorities have identified as the cyclist involved. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, bringing tragic circumstances to the homeless resident of Newark.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident unfolded around 3:30 p.m. west of Interstate 880. Investigators determined Kumar was riding his bicycle westbound in the center median area, directly opposing the flow of eastbound traffic.

A driver of a Mercedes sedan, traveling east on Highway 84, swerved to avoid a stalled vehicle. However, this evasive maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with Kumar, who was positioned in the median. The driver remained present at the scene and provided cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Emergency services rushed Kumar to the hospital, but his injuries ultimately proved fatal. The victim, a homeless individual frequently seen in the area, became a victim of these unfortunate events, caught tragically in the intersection of two vehicles.
