The fatal Putnam County car crash death of Nodir Umarov

New York State Police have identified the individual killed in the multi-vehicle collision that shut down westbound Interstate 84 in Kent, Putnam County, as Nodir Umarov, a 36-year-old resident of Brooklyn.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Monday, June 23rd, when Umarov’s vehicle was driving west in the right lane. A tractor-trailer, being driven by a 34-year-old man from Florida, initiated a slowdown due to approaching traffic within a work zone.

The state police indicated that Umarov’s car failed to stop properly and collided with the rear of the trailer. This impact caused the trailer to move forward and subsequently strike another vehicle being operated by a 42-year-old Connecticut man.

Further details from the investigation reveal that Umarov’s car also crashed into a vehicle driven by a 68-year-old man from Georgia. Tragically, Umarov was the only person inside his vehicle at the time and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders.

No injuries were reported among the other drivers involved in the chain of collisions. The crash led to significant traffic disruption, as authorities closed I-84 westbound promptly at 1:48 p.m. The closure remained in effect until approximately 8:22 p.m. the same day, causing considerable delays for commuters.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that their investigation into the incident is currently ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding this fatal accident.
