A 24-year-old man from Hueytown has died following a shooting incident in Bessemer that occurred on Wednesday night. The victim, identified as Willie James Johnson, III, was pronounced deceased at UAB Medical West after sustaining injuries from being shot outside an abandoned residence located on Clarendon Avenue.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office reports the shooting took place around 10 p.m. Preliminary findings suggest the gunfire originated from a nearby roadway before the suspected individual(s) departed the vicinity. The Bessemer Police Department has officially classified this incident as a homicide under investigation.
