Fatal shooting death of Anassia Wiseman in Minneapolis

A St. Paul woman, Anassia Wiseman, 24, passed away in the hospital several days after sustaining injuries from a shooting that occurred in a vehicle on Interstate 394 in Minneapolis. Law enforcement officials were alerted on a Sunday evening when the two women involved traveled to a medical facility on their own accord.

According to initial findings from authorities, the incident took place on the westbound lanes of I-394, close to the area where it crosses Penn Avenue. The preliminary report indicated that the women were approached by another vehicle on the same highway, and gunfire was directed towards their car. Following the shooting, both individuals sought medical attention at the hospital, with one sustaining a critical injury that proved fatal, while the other suffered a minor wound.

The identity of the surviving victim has not been officially confirmed beyond the preliminary police documents, which note her age as 24. However, family members have released her name as Anassia Wiseman, who was a resident of St. Paul. Her sister, Aminah Wiseman, shared an urgent plea via an online fundraising page, highlighting the loss of the victim and the immediate needs of her two young children, an 8-year-old daughter and a 7-month-old son. The family emphasized that Anassia’s personal belongings are secured with law enforcement and expressed their inability to acquire essential items such as diapers, wipes, clothing, or baby formula.

The ongoing investigation has not resulted in any arrests, and officials continue to explore the circumstances surrounding the attack. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara issued a statement expressing sympathy for the affected families, noting that the tragedy has left one family grappling with the unfulfilled hope of recovery and underscoring the commitment to bring those responsible to justice.

This incident adds to the city’s tally of homicides for 2025, bringing the total to 27. This number is notably lower than the 35 homicides recorded during the same period last year, reflecting a shift in the city’s crime statistics.
