Fatal Dedham shooting death of Jaylani Cole

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that a 20-year-old man from Brockton, Massachusetts, identified as Jaylani Cole, died as a result of gunfire at the BJ’s supermarket parking lot located on Providence Highway in Dedham. Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey and Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont provided this information.

Cole was discovered at the scene shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday following multiple emergency calls to 911. Medical personnel pronounced him deceased at a nearby hospital.

Separately, another individual, also in their early twenties, sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment in surgery, with doctors projecting a full recovery.

The targeted retail establishment was closed at the time of the violent incident. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended by the authorities.

“This remains an active probe. The loss of a young person’s life is deeply saddening,” Morrissey expressed sympathy for Cole’s loved ones. “We extend our condolences to Jaylani’s family and friends.”

The investigating team includes Massachusetts State Police detectives, Dedham Police officers, and Crime Scene Services personnel. Their analysis is supported by experts from the Firearms Identification Section and the Crime Laboratory.
