A 90-year-old male passenger lost his life Tuesday following a severe accident on a rural roadway in Dare County, North Carolina. The incident occurred on U.S. Route 150 near the Waves community around midday.
A female driver, identified as an 84-year-old woman named Joan Casey, was proceeding southbound when she deviated from her lane and engaged in a direct collision with an oncoming vehicle. Mr. Casey, who was traveling northbound in the other car, did not secure himself with a seatbelt during the event. He was transported to a regional medical facility but succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
Mrs. Casey suffered minor trauma but was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening wounds. The occupants of the vehicle she struck were not affected by the crash. According to the county prosecutor, Mrs. Casey was formally accused of improper lane usage and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
