Kameron Williams dies in fatal Metter car incident
Fatal Metter car incident death of Kameron Williams
Multiple agencies conducted a search for the missing child following the report received on Sunday, June 22. The Candler County Sheriff’s Office and the Metter Police Department informed WTOC that authorities located the body in the passenger compartment of a vehicle within the apartment complex’s parking area.
WJCL reported that the coroner’s office was dispatched around 1:30 p.m. and confirmed the child’s death shortly before 2 p.m. WSAV cited the coroner’s office in identifying the deceased as Kameron Williams.
The Georgia authorities did not disclose whether Kameron was intentionally placed inside the vehicle or if he somehow accessed it and became trapped. The duration of his time inside the car remains unknown. McClatchy News attempted to contact the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is leading the investigation, on June 27 but was awaiting a response.
According to AccuWeather, Georgia experienced extreme heat over the weekend, with Metter’s temperatures reaching into the 90s. The low temperature on Sunday was recorded at 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
Kameron’s family described him as a “very special kid.” He had autism and was nonverbal, though relatives noted he could express himself in alternative ways. His obituary stated, “He loved to give hugs and kisses to the ones that he knew, which expressed his love. When he wanted something, he would grab your hand and guide you.”
Kameron was a student at Metter Elementary School, where administrators remarked on his bright smile. “The Candler County School District and Metter Elementary School are deeply saddened by the loss of Kameron,” Candler County Schools Superintendent Fred “Bubba” Longgrear stated to McClatchy News. “Our prayers are with the family, friends and the community during this very difficult time.”
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities withholding further details. Metter is situated approximately 60 miles northwest of downtown Savannah.
