Fatal Cedros suicide death of Melissa Ganness.

Police from the Cedros area are examining what appears to be a deliberate end for a local woman. The 46-year-old, Melissa Ganness, was located hanging in her house in Coconut Grove, Fullerton Village, Cedros, on Wednesday, June 26th, 2025.

Identified as the victim is Melissa Ganness, who resided alone. According to information, at about 3:50 p.m., her 38-year-old cousin, who lives at LP119 Fullerton Main Road, reached out to Cedros police because of a bad smell emanating from her home.

Following the call, officers Constable Valdez and Constable Ramsingh arrived at the scene. The structure they found was a 20×15-foot concrete building without power and was locked. A strong, unpleasant odor was noticeable from inside.

With help from the public, the officers managed to open the front door. Inside, they discovered the body of Melissa Ganness hanging from a rope attached to a beam in the kitchen area. At the time, she was dressed only in black underwear and not wearing any top.

The cousin informed the police that Melissa had experienced mental health challenges and lived by herself. He stated that he had not seen her alive for around five days, during a normal visit intended to check on her well-being.

A medical examiner from the district visited the location, looked at the body, and confirmed Melissa Ganness as deceased. The medical officer directed that the body be taken to the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) Mortuary for now, with plans for a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.

The Cedros police are continuing their investigation into this tragic incident.
