The Albany area authorities identified the deceased as Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales, who was operating a silver-colored Hyundai at the time of the accident. According to witness accounts and official statements, the crash happened on the eastbound section of Interstate 580, situated at the junction with Interstate 80 near Buchanan Street, at approximately 3:30 a.m.

Law enforcement arrested an individual from El Cerrito, reported to be in their late twenties or thirties, for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This suspect was behind the wheel of a white Toyota Camry, which was involved in the collision. Additionally, the California Highway Patrol characterized the driving conduct of this suspect as “extremely hazardous” and reckless, contributing to the severity of the accident.

Eyewitnesses and investigators confirmed that another large truck, commonly referred to as a big rig, was also part of this multi-vehicle collision. Complicating the scene were scattered items from a DoorDash delivery service, which were strewn across the roadway.

No injuries were reported for the other drivers involved in the accident, as stated by the California Highway Patrol. The incident caused significant traffic disruption in the Albany area, with road crews working to clear the scene and restore normal flow of traffic.
