Fatal Accomack County shooting death of Pradipkumar Ratilal Patel

Deputies from the local sheriff’s office were dispatched to a convenience store around 5:30 a.m. The establishment, known as Shore Stop, is situated at 23135 Lankford Highway in Accomack County. Sheriff W. Todd Wessells provided this information.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered an unconscious man with indications of firearm-related injuries. As they conducted a search of the building, they found another female individual who also appeared to have suffered from gunshot wounds.

The male victim, identified as Pradipkumar Ratilal Patel, was 56 years old. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The female victim, who was 24, was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Despite the medical efforts, she later passed away due to her injuries. Sheriff’s officials confirmed that Urmi Pradipbhai Patel is the daughter of the deceased man.

Further investigation led to the issuance of warrants against Geoarge Frazier Devon Wharton, who is currently being held at the Accomack County Jail. Bond has been denied. Wessells stated that Wharton faces charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed by authorities. However, Paresh Patel, who claimed to be the store owner, mentioned that the two victims were members of his family. He shared, “My cousin’s wife and her dad were working this morning, and some guy came here and shot them.” Patel expressed his shock and helplessness, adding, “I don’t know what to do.”

In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to provide support. The page includes a message from Urmi’s spouse, stating that the funds will be used for funeral and memorial expenses, medical bills, and ongoing assistance for the family.
