A 1980 Chevrolet Corvette was involved in the fatal accident. It was being driven by Robinson as he headed eastbound. Police stated that the car likely suffered a mechanical issue, causing it to stop unexpectedly in the center lane.
Another vehicle, a Ford Escape, collided with the Corvette. This impact ignited a fire that quickly spread to the first car. Robinson did not survive the incident.
The driver of the Ford Escape received medical treatment for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Crews worked to clear the debris from the interstate.
I-40 East was shut down for several hours due to the extensive damage at mile marker 45. The road remained closed while emergency responders handled the situation.
