Woodard McClure Dies in Virginia Beach Shooting Incident
Woodard McClure, a 90-year-old man, has died following a shooting in Virginia Beach. This occurred just after noon on Wednesday.
Police responding to a shooting call around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday discovered the victim, Woodard McClure. The 90-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene located in the 500 block of Rodney Lane.
Jennifer Mulligan, 43, was taken into custody without incident at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center. She faces first-degree murder charges and a firearms-related offense. A preliminary investigation suggests the incident had domestic ties, as Mulligan was reportedly caring for her father, who was on hospice.
Virginia Beach Police Sgt. Jude Brenya confirmed officers found a deceased adult male with a gunshot wound at the residence. Court documents state Mulligan admitted to shooting her father during the interview at the police station.
A neighbor expressed understanding for Mulligan’s caregiving challenges but insisted the situation was complicated. “This situation was anything but black and white,” the neighbor stated.
Mulligan, during an interview at the correctional center, mentioned the community she misses while incarcerated. “Depression is no joke,” she commented.
Her scheduled bond hearing has been postponed.
