Chicago police discovered 56-year-old Alonzo Smith fatally shot near his residence in the South Shore area this month. Detectives from the Area Two division are investigating the death and seeking information from the public.
The fatal shooting incident took place around 1:20 in the early morning hours on Merrill Avenue according to official reports. A concerned resident informed authorities that they had heard an argument between two men followed shortly after by the sound of gunfire. This led officers to the location.
When police arrived, they found Mr. Smith unresponsive and immediately called for medical assistance. However, the medical examiner later confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene following the injuries he sustained. Examination revealed fatal gunshot wounds to both his head and hand.
