Dana saw a circulating video clip around day one and felt a strong sense of dread, suspecting it might show her brother. However, the family claims no one from police or the Medical Examiner’s Office contacted them during the initial days following the accident.
Contact from authorities was reportedly difficult for Darrnell’s family. Detroit police reportedly faced challenges locating next of kin due to outdated information. Scott’s family believes this prevented them from learning about his death until five days later.
After exhausting all contact options, the family reached out to the medical examiner’s office. When they received confirmation of his death, Dana experienced shock and distress. The family was able to confirm a backpack shown in some circulating videos belonged to Darrnell.
Investigators are continuing their search for the responsible drivers. Darrnell’s family emphasized the importance of identifying those involved to bring closure. They believe the suspects should be held accountable for leaving the scene.
